When AICC general secretary and in-charge of Andhra affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad came to his residence on Friday evening, megastar Chiranjeevi has raised his collar since Azad is the second top Congress leader after A K Antony to come to his residence. He was of the view that the Congress high command is giving him a lot of respect and treating him as the most important leader in the party.
But Azad simply punctured Chiranjeevi’s bubble, which was evident from the way he spoke to the media after meeting the megastar. He indicated that it is time Chiranjeevi give up the feeling of enjoying a special status and become part of the Congress ranks.
Azad told Chiranjeevi to take the primary membership of the Congress party and start taking active part in the Congress activities. He said Chiranjeevi would be a suitable position in the party; so that he regularly comes to the party offices at Gandhi Bhavan and Congress Legislature Party in the assembly premises and participate in the party programmes and meetings, rather than sitting at home and considering himself a VIP.
Secondly, Azad also made it clear to the media that Chiranjeevi cannot become a Central minister now, as there are now vacancies in Rajya Sabha. As such, he would have to wait for a few more months. “If Chiranjeevi wants to join the Kiran Kumar Reddy government in the state, he is welcome. The choice is his,” Azad said.
Well, Chiranjeevi has no other option. He cannot resign from his Tirupati seat and offer it on a platter to the YSR Congress party or the TDP. At least, he would be happy to become a minister in the Kiran cabinet, rather than dreaming about the chief minister post in future!
