Producer buys Son and Sexy Heroine's B-Film!
The film created shivers in Indian Film Industry for the kind of cast it had and for the content it deals with. Other than bringing craze to a Telugu hero, it has scored a success. We are talking about macho hero Rana and his 'Dum Maaro Dum'.

After receiving critical acclaims with good opening collections, big stars like Abhishek Bachchan, Bipasha Basu and Deepika Padukone's efforts turned fruitful. Rana, son of producer Suresh Babu won accolades for his suave looks, despite of ill remarks from critics. Romance between Rana and Bipasha is also raising heat in the T-town, as the couple looks like perfect playmates. To make his son popular and to cash on his son's romance with Bips, ace producer Suresh Babu bought the Telugu dubbing rights of this Bollywood-Film, as per reports. Except for publicity costs, Suresh Babu need not spend a single rupee as film printing and theatres are his in-house tools. Let us see how Telugu audience receives both the flick and Rana.

Superstar showers praises on Rana

Superstar showers praises on RanaMacho man Rana Daggubati has many reasons to rejoice after the release of much awaited 'Dum Maaro Dum'.

The young actor is in a celebration mood after receiving an SMS from Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan praising his good work.

"Amitabh was one of the first people to send an SMS after watching the special screening of DMD. He had said, 'You have done a great job and no one will say that it is your first movie. Keep up the good work'. I was really touched by this gesture, coming from the undisputed king of Bollywood, I consider this my most prized possession," said Rana.

Trade analysts predict this film to do exceedingly well in this summer season.

Will Rana Score Big With NNR Than DMD?

Whenever a celebrity kid is making his foray, the expectations are large and the hype is more than normal. Right now, that is the case with Daggubati Rana. Though he made his debut with a sober political thriller like ‘Leader’, many in the cine circuit say his current films are the real litmus test for this towering hunk.

Apparently, Rana made his debut in Bollywood with the latest release ‘Dum Maro Dum’ and reports are arriving positive on his looks and screen presence. In the home ground, the curiosity is more on his new movie ‘Nenu Naa Rakshasi’ considering the fact that it is directed by a pure masala entertainer Puri Jagannadh.

As such, the trailers of ‘NNR’ show Rana gave an energetic performance and some found his screen chemistry with Ileana to be a highlight. But in the Bollywood debut, there were other established stars like Abhishek Bachchan, Bipasha Basu etc. Here, it is going to be whole and sole Rana show so the focus will be more on how he will shoulder the film. This should be interesting.

New Releases: Dum Maro Dum And Mr Perfect

The weekend is approaching and it is time to look at what is going to hit at the theatres. This week, there are two movies and one is Telugu and one is Hindi. The reason we are focusing on the Hindi flick is it has a Telugu lad who is making his debut.

First in the list is ‘Dum Maro Dum’ and this marks the debut of Daggubati Rana in Bollywood. He has paired up with the super hot Bipasha Basu and already, their ‘pairing’ caused a sensation off the sets. The film also has Abhishek Bachchan and it is produced by Rohan Sippy. Watch out for the item song of Deepika Padukone in this.

Then comes ‘Mr Perfect’ and this has Prabhas in the lead and he is flanked by Kajal Agarwal and Taapsee Pannu. The film is a wholesome family entertainer and the music by Devisri Prasad got a decent response. This is directed by Dasrath while Dil Raju is the producer. So, here’s wishing the best of success to both films.

'Dum Maro Dum' Review: Drugs, Desires & Death…

Rating: 3/5
Banners:
Ramesh Sippy Entertainment, Fox Star Studios
Cast: Abhishek Bachchan, Aditya Pancholi, Bipasha Basu, Rana Daggubati
Music: Pritam Chakraborty
Cinematography: Amit Roy
Director: Rohan Sippy
Producer: Ramesh Sippy
Release Date: April 22, 2011

While Abhishek Bachchan is taking his litmus test owing to his string of flops, it is also the debut of our Daggubati Rana in Bollywood. Let us see how much ‘Dum’ the film has got

Story:
Set on the backdrop of Goa, the story is about how drugs have taken over the paradise city and the increased presence of drug mafia.
Here comes ACP Vishnu Kamath (Abhishek) who decides to clean up the place. On the other hand, there is the social celebrity Lorsa Biscuita (Aditya Pancholi) who in the garb of social service runs a big drug cartel.
Caught in between the clash of Vishnu and Biscuit is DJ Joki (Rana) whose girlfriend Zoe (Bipasha) now stays with Biscuit, Lorie (Prateik) who aspires to go abroad and study but gets caught taking drugs. The search is on for one Michael Barbossa, the kingpin of this drug ring. Who is Michael Barbossa? What happens to everyone’s life forms the rest of the story.

Performances:
Abhishek Bachchan has come up with a strict performance and though there are those blank expressions, he makes his presence felt.

Daggubati Rana can be called the hero of the film. His screen time is longer than Abhishek, he has a significant role in the entire story and he gets to have the hot Bipasha. Performance wise, his stiff expressions still carry. He is yet to get that versatility of expressions on his face. Otherwise, his screen presence is good. He is worth getting another chance on Bollywood screen.
Bipasha Basu is seductive as usual and she does her bit as required.

Aditya Pancholi was handsome as usual and though his presence as the baddie doesn’t give that impact, he has given a sincere performance.

Prateik Babbar was apt, Govind Namdeo was great, Gantois Gomes was neat, Anaitha Nair was sweet. Deepika Padukone’s item song was not up to the hype. Vidya Balan’s cameo was brief but graceful.

Highlights:
  • Cinematography
  • Dialogues
  • First half
  • Scene compositions
Drawbacks:
  • Dragged second half
  • Deepika’s item song was dull
  • No impacting scenes
  • No character has significance
Analysis:
The basic plot of the film reminds us of the exceptional thriller ‘Usual Suspects’. However, the makers were clever in switching the characters here and there, changing the script with additional characters.
On the good side, the film was stylish, glossy and attempts to give some reality bites of Goa. On the flip side, the film passes off without any gripping moments or sequences that can strike a chord with the hearts of the audience.
Editing was much needed during the second half and if the film was trimmed there, it would have created good impact. But still, the attempt was novel, the essence was appreciable, the presentation was effective. At the box office, this will appeal to the multiplex audience so if word of mouth publicity goes strong, it can reach profit zone.

Bottomline: Watchable but will not give you the ‘High’!!!

Crores riding on Rana's back!

Crores riding on Rana's back!
Daggubati Rana has the sturdy job in hand to stand on par with the excellence of babai Venkatesh and father Suresh Babu. In coming two weeks, Rana has got crores of money riding on his back with two films 'Dum Maaro Dum' and 'Nenu Naa Rakshasi' slated for release. He is on a double cross with these flicks as both stand on equal importance for his future career.

Feeling the nervousness Rana says,"I'm having a lot of fun, but it's tough at times as I am required to be in two places all at once. These are nervous times for sure. But I don't mind it one bit". Can Rana Beat Chiranjeevi?

The time has come for another star from the south to take the litmus test in the north. He is Daggubati Rana and unlike his predecessors like Chiranjeevi, Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan who proved their mettle in the south and went north, Rana is foraying with just one film under his belt. So now, the big question is- can Rana beat the likes of Chiranjeevi?

One can recall how Chiru attempted for a footing in Bollywood with films like ‘Pratibandh’ ‘Aaj Ka Goondaraj’. Now, Rana is going there with his ‘Dum Maro Dum’. However, the cine pundits say that despite having immense dance talent and superstar aura Chiru couldn’t do anything in Bollywood.

A noted analyst said “As for Rana, he doesn’t even have the dance talent like Chiranjeevi or a good number of hits to create an impact. But he is already feeling like Bollywood hero. Well, it is better he holds his horses and turn back the wheel of time to see how his seniors fared. If he is able to make a consistent success graph in Bollywood, it would call for nothing less than a miracle.”

Rana leaks Dum Maaro Dum story

Rana leaks Dum Maaro Dum story
Daggubati Rana who is making debut in Bollywood with the much anticipated 'Dum Maaro Dum' is very excited about the film.

"I don't think I'll ever play a Goan musician in a Telugu or a Tamil film and was very excited with the vibe of the entire film," says Rana.

The actor reveals the story of 'Dum Maaro Dum', which has Goa in it's backdrop.

"The story is set in Goa. Goa is classically called paradise on earth but the land has some snakes that spoil the paradise. My character is Joachim (Joki) Fernandes, a Goan musician, who is very susegad (chilled) in Goan lingo. He knows the good, the bad and the ugly of Goa but never takes to any of those things. He lives a happy life with Zoe (Bipasha Basu) until a time where the snakes get to him and he loses things dear to him. That's when he starts reacting and along with ACP Vishnu Kamath (Abhishek Bachchan), sets on this journey to get paradise back," said Rana.

The Daggubati successor says his look in all the three films he has done has no resemblance to each other.

"In the office, we have these posters of my films - Leader, Dum Maaro Dum and Nenu Naa Rakshasi. It looks like three different people in the posters - I'm a politician in 'Leader', a musician in 'Dum Maaro Dum' and a professional killer with a gun in 'Nenu Naa Rakshasi'," says the star.

Liquor is Cheap & Women are Cheaper!

Liquor is Cheap & Women are Cheaper! The line above is taken from film 'Dum Maaro Dum'. Actress Bipasha Basu renders this dialogue in the film stating that Liquor is cheap in Goa and the Women are cheaper. Without a pinch of discussion, the line depicts women of Goa in bad light showing culture of Goa with a grey shade.

Few of the people from Goa are trying to rake a controversy out of this dialogue and obstruct the release of 'Dum Maaro Dum'. Goans will not take the issue lightly as entire beach city would be projected on a wrong image before the world. Truth is that sex, drugs and liquor have become common elements attached to Goa but none ready to agree.

Keeping the sentiments of Goa populations in mind, Shiv Sena is ready take the war against release of film. Even a section of media is agreeing that it was shameful on part of Bipasha being a woman, to call her fellow Goa women as cheap and disgraceful.

Rana's 'Sexy-Stud' Image @ Bollywood

Bollywood has been the final destination for actors all over India and that includes even the star kids in southern cinema. However, it takes luck and talent to shoot to fame in the big Bollywood and above all, a long time to really make their presence felt. But all these have now been surpassed by one of our own Telugu boys.

He is Daggubati Rana and our sources from Mumbai reveal that he has developed a ‘Sexy Stud’ image in Bollywood. As such, the link with Bipasha Basu has become a strong topic of discussion. Gossips are making rounds and Hindi cine folks are saying “John Abraham’s time is over. A young star from Andhra is driving Bipasha crazy.”

As it is, Bipasha Basu is very popular in Bollywood and is one among the top league heroines. So, when Rana arrives with his debut film ‘Dum Maro Dum’ romancing her on the screen, the Bollywood cine pundits predict he will get gushing offers. And if the film becomes a hit then there is no doubt that Rana would enter the big league, they add.
