Minister for Excise and Prohibition, who is in the dock for being named in the remand report of the Anti-Corruption Bureau in the liquor payoffs scam, is struggling to cover up his involvement and in the process, he displayed his double-tongue.
On Wednesday morning, the minister met Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, who had reportedly said there was no need to resign as he would take care of the further developments. Later, Mopidevi told the media persons that there was no need for him to resign just because some Tom, Dick and Harry claimed to have given Rs 10 lakh to him.
“I don’t have any bad track record. There was not a single allegation against me in the past that I had collected bribes,” he said.
The minister fumbled when asked about his relationship with liquor contractor N Ramana whose confession before the ACB led to the exposure of the scam. First he said he did not even know who Ramana was and his background was. A few minutes later, the minister described Ramana as a dacoit and a person with criminal background.
“It is unfortunate that the ACB had taken his words into cognizance and named me in the remand report,” he said.
Venkata Ramana reminded that it was he who had exposed the degeneration of the excise department and suggested reforms in it.
“The liquor traders are trying to fix me because I have become their nightmare,” he said.
