The sensational revelations made in the Anti-Corruption Bureau report against liquor mafia, exposing the names of several political leaders including excise minister Mopidevi Venkataramana, has come as a big relief for the YSR Congress party leaders.
The list of politicians named by liquor contractor Nunna Ramana does not have a single leader belonging to YSR Congress party. This has given an opportunity for the party leaders to attack their political rivals. Of course, it has the names of two senior reporters of Sakshi daily promoted by YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, but they cannot be counted as party leaders.
That is why the party went hammer and tongs at the Congress government. On Wednesday, party spokesman Janak Prasad demanded an inquiry by a sitting High Court judge into the liquor scam and the resignation of Venkataramana for receiving kickbacks from the liquor syndicate. “The government should make public the full ACB report and disclose the names of people involved in the scam,” he said.
Alleging that the liquor mafia involves leaders of all political parties, he said TDP president N Chandababu Naidu was very supportive of the liquor sale which was very sad.
