It looks like Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu is contemplating revival of his experiment to encourage neutrals to contest the next general elections.
The “Yuvatarangam” programme being unveiled by Naidu in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday is believed to be an attempt to attract the youth into the TDP and give them tickets for the next elections. The TDP president has already announced that 30 per cent of the party tickets would be given to the youth in the next elections. This way, the TDP president hopes that and bright and educated youth would get attracted to the party, which is in a beleaguered state, rather than towards YSR Congress party headed by Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.
It may be mentioned that Naidu had made a similar experiment with “neutrals” during 1999 elections and it paid off well. Several neutrals like former CBI director K Vijayarama Rao, practicing doctor like Sanakkayala Aruna, MRPS activist K Pushpaleela and Andhra University lecturer Pinninti Varalakshmi joined the TDP, won the assembly elections and even became the ministers in the Naidu cabinet. The TDP president plans to revive this experiment and make it a success.
