Andhra Vilas - Oosaravelli Movie Review

NTR's last film Shakthi was a disaster. So the fans were waiting for a big hit in the form of Oodaravelli. Let us see if director Surender Reddy and NTR have managed to come up with a film to match the expectations.

Story:

Tony (Jr.NTR) goes to Kashmir and some terrorists take all the tourists in the bus hostage. Niharika (Tamanna) is one of them. The terrorists plan to kill all the hostages if the government does not agree to their demands. NTR falls in love with Tamanna in this brief encounter. He along with Tamanna manages to escape from the clutches of the terrorists.

However NTR cannot find Tamanna after they escape as the police open fire and they go their separate ways. NTR then comes to Hyderabad as he learns that she is in Hyderabad. To his shock however NTR learns that Tamanna already has a lover and she is set to marry him shortly. He is the son of minister Tanikella Bharani. When he goes abroad for 15 days NTr pleads with Tamanna to give him a chance to try and woo her. Tamanna agrees as he is sure that NTR is going to fail in his attempt.

In the flashback we learn that Tony is the son of Sayaji Shinde. Sayaji is a small time rowdie in Mumbai. He takes money and does the needed without thinking about it. Sayaji is stabbed one day in retaliation by someone who was at the receiving end of his goondagiri. Before dying Sayaji tells his son that he did not do anything good in all his life. So NTR should not repeat the mistake and so he tells his son to at least one good thing in life for which he can look back in pride.

Niharika (Tamanna) asks NTR to kill the gangsters as they have killed her brother Shaam and his family including the kids. She offers him one crore for the work. NTR flatly refuses but later aggress as he is moved by her plight.

NTR then goes all out to eliminate Ajju bhai (Prakash Raj) He uses some small time gangsters like Raghu Babu and Jayaprakash Reddy to succeed in his mission. Why does Niharika ask NTR to kill Ajuu bhai and his gang? Will NTR keep his word given to Tamanna? Answers to this can be found on the silver screen.

Performance:

The film revolves around two people NTR and Tamanna. They both share equal screen presence. NTR is presented in a soft lover boy image and he looks different. However his new look is not exactly convincing. He performs his usual trademark dances. Tamanna is good and looks natural in her role as a fashion designer. She also gives a good performance in the flashback episode. Payal Ghosh does justice to her role as Tamanna's friend.

Prakash Raj once again comes up with a routine mafia don role. There is nothing much to say about his performance as he just does what the director asks him to do. Tanikella appears in a brief role. Sham plays Tamanna's brother and a undercover cop and he is okay.

Jayaprakash Reddy, Raghu Babu and co. raise some laughter with their characters as bumbling goons. MS Narayana appears in a brief role as a landlord. The rest of the star cast just come and go.

Analysis:

Oosaravelli has been touted as a different action entertainer from NTR. NTR sports a very soft look in the film but his restrained performance does not impress much. The story is wafer thin and the screenplay jarring.

The director fails to come up with a good sentiment or a very big motive for NTR to take revenge on the gangsters. The songs are picturised at beautiful locales but the overall impact is average. Cinematography is good and so are the production values. The film runs at a leisurely pace and there is not much pick up in speed in the second half too. The climax is also not very good.

Verdict:

Oosaravelli promises a lot but delivers very little. The film is sure to disappointment all his fans. To put it mildly, Oosaravelli is just an average film and it has little chance of making any big impact at the box office.
