Crime Investigation Department sleuths on Friday arrested popular Telugu film producer Singanamala Ramesh in Chennai in connection with his alleged links with Bhanu Kiran, the killer of faction leader Maddelacheruvu Suri.
Ramesh, who had been evading arrest for the last five months was taken into custody in Chennai. He was produced in the local court and is expected to be brought to Hyderabad later in the day.
Though Ramesh is one of the suspects in the murder of Suri, the arrest warrant was mainly with regard to his threatenings to a film financer Vyjayanthi Reddy, who had given him a loan of Rs 7.2 crore.
Vyjayanti had complained to police in February this year that Ramesh along with Bhanu Kiran, threatened to kill her in 2008, after she demanded her money back.
Ramesh is also facing charges of cheating proprietor of Shalimar Videos over the video rights of a film "Komaram Puli".
With the arrest of Ramesh, the police hopes to make progress in the investigations into Suri's killing. The house in which Suri was staying in Srinagar Colony at the time of murder belongs to Ramesh.
The police gained enough evidences to prove that Ramesh had close links with Bhanu. Now, the cops are confident of tracing Bhanu with the help of SIM card recovered from Ramesh.
