With film making becoming a business, just about everyone jumped into it and now the circuit has become a hotchpotch of dirty money. The conventional financiers have quit the line due to losses and only a few managed to become producers. As a result, it is the dirty money of bureaucrats, politicians, ministers, realtors, NRIs, liquor barons that made entry into Tollywood.
Sources say this money comes at exorbitant interest rates. On an average, 80 out of 100 flicks are a result of these funds. Even banks like IDBI which used to fund films have now given up due to losses faced in other regional films.
The final nail in the coffin is the nexus between producers with criminals. The likes of C Kalyan and Singanamala Ramesh and their alleged activities such as land encroachments, threatening original owners etc are now coming to light, as per sources.

Though Ramesh has been arrested, Kalyan has been playing a cat and mouse game with the cops. It is heard that producer Dasarath took the cops to NTR Jr’s wedding to catch Kalyan but the latter got a tipoff and he scooted. For someone who was a normal bus conductor in Vijayawada about a decade ago, his phenomenal rise is definitely raising eyebrows.
