The euphoria over the induction of the erstwhile Praja Rajyam Party members into the cabinet may well be short-lived. The actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi is now grappling with the prospect of desertions from his party.
There are fears in the Chiranjeevi camp that the disappointed ministerial aspirants could play the spoilsport. Some of the erstwhile PRP leaders have begun to feel that they do not much prospects in the Congress. Interestingly, a majority of them had defected to the PRP from other parties.
It is said that some of them, who were otherwise considered close to Chiranjeevi, are planning to switch over to Telugu Desam Party. They have already opened a channel with the TDP and the call by its chief N Chandrababu Naidu to return to the party could act as a tipping point.
On its part, the TDP has assured the PRP MLAs that they would be given the party tickets in the next Assembly elections. Those who are unsure of their political future in the Congress could gravitate towards either TDP or YSR Congress Party. In fact, several of the PRP leaders, including Vanga Geetha, Bandaru Satyananda Rao, C Ramachandraiah and Ganta Srinivasa Rao, were earlier with the TDP.
