'Namaste Telangana' Triggers Another Media War

Two days after its launch, the new chip on the media block, “Namaste Telangana”, has made its intentions clear. It has attacked what it calls “Seemandhra Newspapers” for carrying out a venomous campaign to derail the Telangana statehood campaign.
Providing a glimpse of the acrimonious media war ahead, “Namaste Telangana” ran a banner story on Thursday, targeting “Andhra Jyothy” for carrying a negative report on the Telangana Joint Action Committee and suggesting internal differences in the organization.
Accusing the Seemandhra media of trying create a wedge and spread confusion in the Telangana movement, the story went on to rebut the rival media report point by point.
The tone and tenor of the opinionated piece, passing off as a news story, indicates that “Namaste Telangana” will serve as a platform to counter the reports appearing in the existing leading dailies, particularly “Eenadu” and “Andhra Jyothy”.
Interestingly, while it made a direct attack on “Andhra Jyothy”, embellishing it with supporting quotes from several leaders including Telangana Rashtra Samithi President K Chandrasekhar Rao, it refrained from naming “Eenadu”.
It is generally perceived in the media circles that “Namaste Telangana”, with a print run of 7.50 lakh copies across seven publication centers, will pose a threat to “Andhra Jyothy” more than any other dailies.
