The growing importance of Kapus in the Congress party following the entry of megastar-turned-Praja Rajyam Party president K Chiranjeevi and neglect of Dalits as was evident from the sacking of P Shankar Rao from the cabinet has triggered a caste war in the state and the situation seems to be gradually slipping out of the Congress party hand.
If it was the demolition of statues of Baba Saheb Ambedkar in East Godavari for the last few days that resulted in caste conflicts in the region, it was the turn of the statues of most revered Kapu leaders Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga and Acharya N G Ranga at Tenali in Guntur district late on Friday night. Some miscreants demolished both the statues at different places in Tenali, resulting in a tense atmosphere in the town.
The incident is all set to flare up into a full-fledged caste war if the government does not react promptly and bring the culprits to book. It is pretty evident that these incidents are taking place in an obvious attempt to show the Congress party in poor light. The comments of some Congress leaders like G V Harsh Kumar are also adding fuel to the flame. If the party does not take corrective measures, tough time is ahead for the Kiran Kumar Reddy government.
