Veteran producer Pundareekakshaiah is no more


Veteran producer-actor Atluri Pundareekakshaiah died of brief illness in Chennai in the early hours of Thursday.
He was 87. Born at Choutuppal village of Gudivada mandal in Krishna district on August 19, 1925, Atluri produced several films like Mahamantri Timmarusu, Manushullo Devudu, Maavari Manchi Tanam, Melu Kolupu and Aradhana. Along with legend hero N T Rama Rao and his brother Trivikrama Rao, he launched National Art Theatres (NAT). The last film he produced was Raghavaiah Gaari Abbayi.
Atluri, however, began his career in films as an actor. His first film was Bhakta Prahlada and acted in several films like Palletooru, Ammalakkalu, Pitchi Pullaiah, Todu Dongalu, Jayasimha, Karvathyam, Praana data, Rajeshwari Kalyanam and Police Brothers. His character of Muddu Krishnayya in Vijaya Shanti-starrer Karthavyam gave him a lot of name and fame.
