The legacy of film families and star kids runs high in the Tollywood circuit. So, it has become more of a tradition to the audience and fans to accept and admire the entrants. However, our neighbouring circuit Kollywood is a total opposite and there are no Balakrishnas and Nagarjunas in it. That means no heroes emerged out of varasatwam.
As such, the notable legend was MGR but it is heard that there is no son for him. Then there was the iconic Sivaji Ganesan and though his son Prabhu came with high expectations, he had to limit himself as a character artiste. Right now, Kamal Haasan has his daughter Shruti but she is yet to make her mark successfully.
There is also Rajinikanth’s son-in-law Dhanush who has been working hard to make a name for himself. The cine analysts have their analysis on this, they say “Usually, the Telugu folks will tolerate this legacy and family thing but Tamils will not. Their total preference is for true talent and performance. Some of the best examples are Vijay, Ajith, Vikram who are not into any Varasatwam business. Those who have talent get appreciated in Kollywood.”
