The simmering differences in the first family of Telugu Desam Party came to the fore on the birth anniversary of its founder late N T Rama Rao.
At a time when succession battle is going on in the family over who should take over the reins of the party, NTR’s grandson and popular actor Junior NTR has declared that he will not attend the ongoing Mahanadu. Accompanied by his father and TDP Rajya Sabha member N Harikrishna, he went to NTR Ghat and paid homage.
While Junior NTR stayed away from Mahanadu, his paternal uncle N Balakrishna made an appearance at Mahanadu venue and went round the photo exhibition of NTR. In the ongoing succession war, Balakrishna is said to be backing his son-in-law and N Chandrababu Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh.
The division was clearly visible on Saturday with Balakrishna attending Mahanadu while Junior NTR keeping himself away from the party’s annual conclave despite Chandrababu Naidu personally inviting him.
The ostensible reason given by him was that he is busy with film shootings.
Balakrishna did not join his brother Harikrishna and Junior NTR to the NTR Ghat but went separately to pay homage to his father. The signs of a split in the family are expected to become clearer in the days ahead.
