It has been quite some time one could see versatile actress Telangana Shakuntala in Telugu films.
Once a regular appearance in almost every film, her chances seem to have dwindled of late. She has been neither approached nor consulted for any big roles in the recent films.
The reason that is being talked about in the film media circles is that the “Telangana” tag has had an impact on her chances in the films in the last two years, which had witnessed intense movement for separate Telangana state.
May be because the Telangana activists have been attacking every film being made by the Seemandhra producers and directors, they might have ignored her only because of her “Telangana” prefix. May be, they thought she is from the Telangana region.
Ironically, Shakuntala couldn’t figure prominently even in the movies made on Telangana movement, despite her fluency in the Telangana slang.
In fact, Shakuntala does not hail either from Telangana or from Coastal Andhra. She is a native of Maharasthra bordering Telangana districts, which is why she is very comfortable with Telangana Telugu. She also fluently speaks chaste Marathi.
Now Shakuntala is said to be lamenting for her ‘Telangana’ prefix leisurely, sources say.
