‘Happy Days’ actor Nikhil was caught driving his swanky Skoda Laura in an inebriated condition near NTR Trust Bhavan, Banjara Hills, late on Friday night. His vehicle was seized and asked to appear before court on Monday.
According to the police, Nikhil, who starred in Happy Days and played the lead in six other Tollywood films, seemed to be driving under the influence of alcohol and was made to undertake a field sobriety test, which he failed.
They added that Nikhil’s licence might be suspended for two months and he might also have to pay a fine.
Traffic police said Nikhil was directed to appear before the Nampally criminal court on Monday. As soon as he noticed video cameras of news channels, Nikhil along with his friend left the location. Initially, the actor tried to get one of his relatives talk to the police over phone, but the traffic police refused to release the vehicle.
Since last week, traffic police have been implementing clause 185-A of the Motor Vehicle Act, under which the traffic police seize the vehicle from the drunk driver besides producing him before a magistrate.
