In order to perpetuate the memory of renowned Godman Sathya Sai Baba who passed away on Sunday, his home district of Anantapur should be named after him. It will be a fitting tribute to the spiritual leader who has attracted devotees from across the world, said the Narasaraopet MP M Venugopal Reddy.
Anantapur has found a place in the global spiritual map because of Baba's philanthropic and social activities, he said. Baba was born on November 23, 1926 at Puttaparthi in Anantapur district which he developed into a spiritual empire over the last six decades.
If Anantapur is named after Baba, it will join a list of five other districts which have been rechristened in memory of prominent leaders. They are Vizianagaram, Nellore, Prakasam, Kadapa and Ranga Reddy.
