The trouble is brewing for the members of the Juctice B N Srikrishna Committee whose report on Telangana has infuriated the statehood supporters. A local court in Hyderabad has on Friday directed the police to register cases against the panel members and submit a report.
The 14th additional metropolitan magistrate has asked the Panjagutta police to file cases under IPC sections 158 (A), 478, 504 and 502 and investigate the allegations that the five-member Committee’s report had amounted to insulting the Telangana sentiments.
The court’s direction was based on a petition filed by a local lawyer Wali-Ur-Rehman, alleging that the panel had deliberately distorted the facts and sought to create a wedge on communal lines. The chapter 8 of the 500-page report contained comments that amounted to disturbing the communal harmony and amity, the petitioner contended. He also alleged that the committee overstepped its brief and entered into a territory which was not part of its terms of reference.
The court asked the police to probe the matter and submit a report to the court.
