It is official now. Praja Rajyam Party president K Chiranjeevi has announced that he has dropped the project to take up his 150th film. In a discussion with ABN Andhra Jyothy channel, Chiranjeevi said he had shelved the film project because he did not like the story. “I was not completely satisfied with the subject and the concept. It is true that I wanted to do the film, but I don’t want to do it for the sake of doing. Only if the subject comes close to my heart, I will do it,” he said.
It was in September last that Chiranjeevi announced his entry into films and declared that the shooting would commence in January this year. There were reports that he had okayed the scropt and subject, which he said was on the lines of his earlier films like “Stalin” and “Tagore,” which were wholesome family entertainers with a social message as undercurrent. “My next film will also be a pucca commercial one with a powerful message to the audience,” Chiranjeevi said then.
However, the project was deferred to March following a series of changes in the state politics: replacement of Rosaiah with Kiran Kumar Reddy as the chief minister, resignation of Y S Jaganmohan Reddy from the Congress and his plans to launch a new party, threat to the Kiran Kumar Reddy government with MLAs supporting Jagan and the Congress seeking the help of Chiranjeevi to stabilize the Kiran government. It finally culminated in Chiranjeevi merging his PRP with the Congress.
As a result, Chiranjeevi is left with no time to think about the films. In the wake of changed developments, the story line also had to undergo changes and he realized that it would not suit his changed image, as he is set to play a bigger role in the Congress. So, he dropped the plan altogether.
The last film he acted was “Shankar Dada Zindabad,” a Telugu remake of the Bollywood hit “Lagey Raho Munnabhai”. However, he made a passing appearance in a song for his son Ramcharan Teja’s blockbuster movie Maghadheera in 2009
