Producers On Verge Of Bankruptcy

A heap of flops has made some T-town film-makers bankrupt in the last three months. Producers have lost almost Rs 80 crore on approximately 17 big-ticket films including Param Veera Chakra, Teen Maar, Shakti, Nenu Na Rakshasi, and Wanted.
The sad situation is that, while some producers have had to sell their homes to refund the “recoverable advances” to distributors and exhibitors, their stars and directors are building their own palatial houses. “A leading producer sold his house for Rs 13 crore to refund the losses, whereas the star and the director of the same flop film, built houses during the making of the film. That’s the plight of T-town producers,” rues one producer.
M.S. Raju, who has made big films like Okkadu and Varsham says, “Some amateur and inexperienced producers have disturbed the economics of film-making by paying very large sums to stars and directors. This has ruined the industry.”
Unable to pay back the huge losses, one big producer, who made films with superstars, has gone underground to avoid refunding Rs 15 crore to buyers and exhibitors.
“He has switched off his mobile and is not available in office, but we’ll make him refund the money. We have extracted money from such producers before, so we’ll not spare him,” says a leading distributor from Vizag, who reveals that a couple of Telugu directors own swanky theatres in Visakhapatnam.
According to industry sources, the budgets have gone overboard due to the hefty pay packets of stars and directors. Reigning stars get Rs 8 crore to Rs 10 crore per film, while top directors get between Rs 3 crore to Rs 5 crore and heroines go for Rs 1 crore and above.
Even cinematographers and music composers have upped the ante by asking for Rs 80 lakh per film. “Stars and directors need to cut down on their exorbitant pay packets as the budgets have gone haywire and many producers are losing heavily on star-studded movies,” says producer Aditya Ram, who burnt his hands with Ek Niranjan.
Director Teja blames the flops on repetitive content and feels that Telugu cinema can bounce back, especially if film-makers begin to think out of the box. Along with the astronomical fees of the stars, and poor content, there is also the problem of spiralling costs.
A leading producer, explains, “Some leading directors entertain producers until they get their pay cheques but after that the producer forfeits the right to seek an explanation for the spiralling budget. He has to silently supply the money, but is kept in the dark about expenditures. Summing up the bleak scenario, producer Lagadapati Sridhar says, “Film-making business is hardly a viable proposition nowadays.”

Can Tollywood Producers get Maturity???

Can Tollywood Producers get Maturity???
These are the days where no Telugu film is in the race to bag a National Award or making a place to any international film festivals. Even during this crisis, some of our producers have not stopped being false to the audience. Just for the sake of minting money, our guys acts are spoiling the overall impression on TFI at rocket speed.

Best example for this is recently released Ravi Teja's flick 'Veera'. Just after the first show, the film was rated poor and almost all the media started the post-mortem of it. As negative talks spreads faster, the fate of the film is sealed on the day of release itself as the movie lacks punch and content values.

However, an advertisement in today's newspaper states that 'Veera' has collected around 3 crores, 75 lakhs and 63 thousand Rupees share on day-one to create record and declared a hit. Forget the record it has created, can this film be declared a hit really. This is how Tollywood is working to make money without even thinking how outsiders think about our films. No doubt, Tollywood is a 'Mercedes Benz car', but on a jockey. Can we really move forward without our producers getting any maturity? Think a second guys!

Outdated Hero at 'Dummy' Producer's house

Outdated Hero at 'Dummy' Producer's house
Most regarded in the present day situation of Film Industry as a 'dummy' producer, this guy seems to be the ray of hope for outdated artists. With only movies that can be counted on finger tips, this dummy man is famous for his big budgeted flop flicks. With some hardcore romantic and action mixed boring flicks, this hero is quite outdated now. Once regarded as best of family heroes, this guy lost control on his track and is doing dud flicks that bore the audience to a max.

According to grapevine, the hero is caught wandering at the house of that dummy producer. The reason behind this is said to be a role in that producer's flick. Our sources stated the family hero is trying for a second hero role, as he wants to settle down in the industry as a character artist. You might have understood who is that 'dummy producer' and 'outdated hero' by now!

'Salaried Producers' Laughing Together

Ganesh Babu and Atchi Reddy are called salaried producers in Tollywood. It’s an open secret that Botsa Satyanarayana produces movies with the binami name of Ganesh Babu while RR Movies Venkat makes movies with Atchi Reddy as producer on cards. While Ganesh Babu acts and moves as per the dictation of Botsa like a ‘yes man’, Atchi Reddy is working for RR Movies Venkat for his own financial reasons.

As per a talk, RR Movies Venkat is paying Rs 70,000 for Atchi Reddy as salary and all that he has to do is giving his name a producer whenever he calls for.

Similarly Botsa is also paying a good sum for Ganesh every month. Well, Botsa gave enough for Ganesh for selling his huge lands during boom period. Apart from that he kept a good sum on hold and paying Ganesh monthly wise, to keep him in his grip. That’s a wise political move indeed.

Both RR Venkat and Botsa possess huge black money which they wish to make that white by making films, a source says. Well, that wasn’t proved officially any time.

Ganesh Babu catching 'leaves' after 'burns'

Ganesh Babu catching 'leaves' after 'burns'
There is a Telugu proverb 'Chetulu Kaalaaka Aakulu Pattukovadam'. Present situation of 'Teen Maar' exactly fits into this proverb. Producer Ganesh Babu in a hurry to complete shooting of the film with in minimum period of time interfered in direction department on every day basis. Apparently, he was successful in packing up 'Teen Maar' in below 100 days but that is costing him ponderously today.

Director Jayant requested Ganesh Babu for re-shooting of some scenes which strictly got a rejected answer. Including with this even the spot dubbing lapses are clearly observed in theatres irritating audience with defective audio output. Insiders are blaming Ganesh Babu as the basic reason for hampering the success range of 'Teen Maar'. Having known this Ganesh Babu is trying to catch leaves after getting his hand already burnt.

Caste-Politics rock 'Geetha Arts' office

Caste-Politics rock 'Geetha Arts' office
Offices of mega producers like Allu Aravind, Dil Raju and Suresh Babu looks almost like the deciders of Film Industry's fate. Projects produced by these star producers pave way for many young directors to start their sparkling career in the industry.

According to grapevine, many politics between some castes are playing a key role in giving opportunities to youngsters at Geetha Arts office. The production house is owned by mega producer Allu Aravind and co-partnered by many other big-wigs. It is heard that Geetha Arts gives opportunities to persons of particular caste most of the times. Directors like VV Vinayak, Sukumar and Trivikram are said to be hailing from same community and hence they are patronized by Geetha Arts a lot is the talk. The strongest point to be discussed in Film Nagar is GA's affinity towards a particular section, though persons from different caste and creed have worked with Allu Aravind many times.
