What will happen if the arrested IAS officer B P Acharya spills the beans about the people behind the multi-crore Emaar Properties scam?
There is a palpable tension in the political circles as to what would Acharya, who was at the helm of the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) from 2005 to 2009, tell the investigators. In his bail petition, he has already hinted that he had done what he was supposed to do.
The senior civil servant has been telling his close associates that he was only being made a scapegoat in the case while the real masterminds were being let off the hook. All fingers are now pointing towards K V P Ramachandra Rao, the soul mate of former Chief Minister late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, without whose nod nothing could move in those days.
The dilution of the APIIC stake in the Emaar deal, from the original 49 percent to 6 percent, and the sale of luxury villas, plots and apartments by grossly undervaluing their cost in the documents could not have happened without the knowledge of KVP.
If Acharya blames KVP for the omissions and commissions, then the case will take a curious turn. It remains to be seen whether the UPA leadership will give the nod for KVP’s arrest?
