Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu never loses an opportunity to exploit any situation to gain the political mileage in the elections. And he seems to be taking a leaf out of the script of his brother-in-law Nandamuri Balakrishna to deliver punchy dialogues to attract the people.
The TDP president on Tuesday called on striking cloth merchants at Indira Park and expressed solidarity with their cause. He said the TDP would fight tooth and nail against the government’s decision to impose five per cent value added tax (VAT) on textiles.
“We will raise the issue in the assembly and pull up the government. How can the government impose tax even on clothes, which are the basic essentials of the common man?” he asked.
While questioning the Congress government’s stubborn stand on this issue, Naidu did not forget to seek the support of the cloth merchants to the TDP in the next elections. And he delivered the “punch” dialogue to attract the gathering: “Defeat VAT with vote. Only if you vote out the Congress party and bring the TDP back into power, you can get rid of this VAT,” he said.
