Is Censor Board Really Useful?

Just like there is a project leader to oversee any IT project and a principal to oversee the running of a school, there is also a censor board to monitor the content of the films that are being made. Technically, the job of a censor board member is to ensure there is not much sleaze, gore, dialogues or anything that can cause disturbance to the audience or hurt their sentiments. As simple as it may sound, is that actually the thing which is happening right now?

A noted producer on condition of anonymity said “Censor board is a dummy right now. The cause for this is the set of board members. Though some are sincere, there are few key persons who are keen on eating money and overseeing few things.” Another film related member who is a budding director said “It has become a Herculean task to get certification, they make you run around from pillar to post especially when they know you are not having background.”

While mixed views are there from the film fraternity’s end, this is what the audience has to say. Sudhir, an avid movie buff said “I see no consistency in their censoring. Sometimes, lewd dialogues and scenes are passed and in other instances there are few trivial issues which are muted or blacked out causing confusion.” Kaushik, who writes film related blogs on the web said “The problem is with the profiles of the people who become part of censor board. You end up putting classical dancers, veterans of black and white era on the hot seat, how would they understand what is the need of the hour? That leads to clash in ideology among today’s film makers and the censor members.”

Mansi, a student with a film institute said “The trust factor on the censor board is gone, it is more about the luck factor. It is depending on their moods the film gets an A, U/A or there needs to be lot of negotiations.” But Rohit has a different view “The censor board has guidelines and they strictly go by them. It doesn’t require any profile or audience pulse. Their role is noble and it is a huge responsibility because cinema has a strong impact on the society. We must respect the censor board for being there and adhere to their rulings.”

While the thoughts are varied, the recent spike in the censor related controversies must be curbed or else, faith in the system will no longer be there.

Censor Board Dhanalakshmi's Villainy

With each passing day, the censor board has been hitting the headlines albeit for the wrong reasons. Notable among them is Dhanalakshmi who seems to be growing in her share of controversies than her cuts on films. Now, it is heard that she has shown her ‘Prathapam’ on a crucial project.

Yes, we are talking about ‘Badrinath’ and it is heard that after issuing a ‘U’ certificate once, the film was called back for re-censoring. Now, the film has emerged with an ‘A’ certificate. As if that was not enough, it is heard that the film has suffered several cuts, thanks to Dhanalakshmi.

Now, sources close to ‘Badrinath’ camp are banging their heads since they feel that few crucial parts have been clipped. While they are crying torture from Dhanalakshmi’s side, many are waiting to see whether Dhanalakshmi will emerge as the main torturer or the film will beat her in banging the heads of the audience.http://video.fulltollywood.com

Censor Board’s Real Face Exposed!!

The censor board is the highly regarded body in the film fraternity. However, it seems to have lost all its authenticity when it comes to the Tollywood circuit. Apparently, a group of producers feel the rules followed by the board members are outdated and this is causing them great losses.

While Prasanna Kumar, general secretary of the producers council has urged the I & B minister to remove the censor, others have suggested that members must be taken from film fraternity. Another producer Shankar has reportedly said that censor board objecting to mini skirts, lip locks is ridiculous. Even the big Suresh Babu has reportedly alleged that Hindi, Tamil movies are getting away with such things while Telugu films are suffering.

If this is one side, the other side is that the board members are corrupted. An allegation is that the board members demand bribe for better certification and sometimes, they take money from distributors to leak the inside information on the film. However, they are also bowing down to political pressures, as per sources. It is heard that films like ‘Parama Veera Chakra’ was allegedly reissued a new certificate owing to such pressure.

The general opinion is that big movie makers can handle things while smaller ones have to run from pillar to post.

Censor Board Next Attack On 'Dussasana'

It is heard that Posani Krishna Murali turned an year older yesterday and while birthdays are meant to be days of good gifts, he seems to be getting something bitter. Well, Posani came up with his latest offering ‘Dussasana’ which blew the bulbs of the audience, thanks to the vulgarity in few scenes and gore.

Now, it is heard that the censor officials have turned their attention towards the film. Incidentally, they seized the reels of the film ‘Veera’ at the Odeon theatre yesterday and the cinema was stopped since censored scenes were also being screened.

With reports from audience that even ‘Dussasana’ has got certain scenes especially during the climax which was filled with gore and few sequences in between which were rather ugly, the speculation is that censor officials might pay a visit to Posani’s film and do the needful. Let us see what happens.

Censor Board Chief Dhanalakshmi's Corruption

The AP regional Censor Board is fixed in a controversy now. There is a big allegation that its present Chief Dhana Lakshmi got corrupted and clearing the films with U certificate with a price.
Although some scenes are to be cut down to give U or U/A, as per producer’s requests she s waving green signal for release without cuts.

On the other hand, a complete contrary scene is happening now between Censor Board and ‘Veera’ makers.
It is said that Censor Board has suggested a few cuts with respect to beheadings, skin show and cuss words but the makers didn’t bother at all.
No body from the audiences complained about this as the masses readily enjoys this feast. But the fight is on between Censor Board and ‘Veera’ makers for violating the rule.

The bottom line is that makers are not concerned about Censor Board and the Censor Baord is also not concerned about the society. Every body is concerned about themselves.

Jokes On 'Dussasana' Censor

It is an open secret in the cine circuit that anything that comes from the camp of Posani Krishnamurali is bound to give a tough time to the censor board members. Given the dose of vulgarity in his directorial ventures and the ugly scene composition he chooses, this doesn’t come across as a surprise.

However, it is now heard that jokes are making rounds on the censor board connecting them to the latest release ‘Dussasana’, Posani’s brainchild. Apparently, those who watched the film could not digest the climax. There were gruesome scenes in the fight sequence and this has given way to few jokes.

Most of them said “It looks like after the harassment and mental agony Posani caused to the censor board members, they must have collapsed with fatigue in the middle itself and he must have silently brought the film outside.” The cine folks are having a hearty laugh over this and add that Posani is capable of doing that. They are empathising with the plight of the censor board members though.

Censor Board Angry On Pawan Kalyan

Right now, Pawan Kalyan is all smiles after looking at the reactions to his latest offering ‘Teen Maar’. While the makers are also satisfied with the outcome, it is heard that they have rubbed the censor board officials on the wrong side. It is heard that the censor folks are quite angry on the producers of ‘Teen Maar’.

Sources reveal that the board members had specifically told the makers to cut the lip kiss scenes between Pawan and Trisha but that didn’t happen. The makers have reportedly left the instruction to air and went ahead with the scenes onscreen.

Now, the cine folks are looking at this incident with great curiosity. A senior producer said “Let us see whether the censor board will take any action on this or not. Even if they take, there is no point since the film has done its share of business. But the chances are that if they don’t, then it will set wrong precedence and even other moviemakers might just get motivated to follow the same route.”
