If the reports from New Delhi are to be believed, Congress president Sonia Gandhi is unlikely to give permission to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to expand his cabinet further.
Kiran, who went to New Delhi on Saturday morning, could not get the appointment of Sonia despite hectic lobbying. He had a meeting with AICC in-charge of Andhra affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad and tried to explain his compulsions to go in for cabinet expansion to fill up some vacancies arising out of the resignation of two ministers and sacking of another minister. He reminded that during the last expansion of cabinet, Sonia had promised to consider further expansion at a later date.
Sources, however, said the Madam was terribly angry over the recent controversies surrounding the Kiran government, especially with regard to growing unrest among Dalits, political appointments in Right to Information Commission and the allegations against Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu scheme. Though she has no plans to change the Chief Minister as such, she also does not want any further controversies and unrest among the Congress party MLAs by permitting the cabinet expansion. She is expected to say that he might go in for cabinet expansion after the by-elections in Telangana region.
