It is by now clear that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy is not showing the same enthusiasm in checking liquor syndicates as he had shown in ordering the ACB raids on them.
It may sound surprising that not many liquor traders were arrested, whereas several excise department officials were suspended and arrested. On the other hand, the liquor traders are openly threatening the government that they would stop selling liquor, if the government insists on maximum retail price and conducts raids so frequently.
“It is pretty clear that the Chief Minister is blackmailing the liquor syndicates, saying that he would disclose the details of their illegal transactions. Since most of those in the syndicates are the Congress leaders, they are not able to do anything. The ACB report is with the Chief Minister, but he is not disclosing the same because of his links with the liquor mafia. He is just blackmailing them,” BJP state president G Kishan Reddy said.
Apparently, the Chief Minister wants to use the report to threaten his detractors like Botsa and keep them under check.
