With the passion for cricket rising to a crescendo this season, the star-studded celebrity cricket league curtain raiser match at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA grounds proved to be a perfect event for all fans and cricket lovers to watch their favourite stars in action.
People descended on the stadium in thousands to cheer for their superstars at the match between Mumbai Heroes and South Superstars on Saturday.
The Southern Super Stars won the curtain- raiser Celebrity Cricket 20-20 cricket match over Mumbai Heroes by 36 runs. Winning the toss, the Sou-thern Super Stars made 193 runs in their allotted overs. The Mumbai Heroes made 156 runs for loss of six wickets.
The excitement ran high with the entry of the movie stars from Bollywood. Salman Khan drew maximum attention though he neither fielded nor got a chance to bat. Unlike the festival matches usually played by a mix of cricket players and stars, the CCL was different with the cine stars exhibiting their skills.
Sporting flashing red t-shirts, the South Superstars led by actor Venkatesh were the favourites of the crowd.
Telugu star Venkatesh suffered a mild injury when Mumbai star Angad tried to flick a ball from Tarun to the offside in the tenth over. Venkatesh was immediately rushed to the dressing room for first aid. While the super stars Salman Khan, Ritesh Deshmukh, Sonu Sood added colour to the event, the Southern Stars had the local fans to cheer them up.
Actors Shriya Sharan, Genelia, Priyamani, Andrita Ray and Raagini added the glam quotient to the event cheering up the players. Earlier the National Highway leading from the Airport to the Cricket Stadium at Madhuravada was packed with the people, lovers of both cricket and movies.
